old bones
I finally finished cataloging and photographing my second batch of Rattlesnake Creek / Gainesville, Florida matrix collected and sent to me by TFF member Sacha. It is early Miocene, Coosawhatchee Formation, Hawthorn group (with occasional Eocene items found.) As always, any corrections or further help with IDs is gladly accepted. I am here to learn. I really like this matrix for the sheer variety of specimens and the occasional mammal find. I have posted a few of the things I couldn't identify on the IDs page as well. Here are some of the more unusual (for me) finds; Bat tooth Gavialosuchus jawbone Mole-claw continued in next reply
old bones
continued a few of the shark teeth that seemed different to me. And I was very pleased to find my first cow shark tooth! I really like the shark tooth with feeding damage as well. I am still hesitant to ID most shark teeth as yet. Any help with that would be appreciated. Raggedy Man
I really love this matrix as well. The variety alone made the acquisition worth it, but some of these teeth have the most amazing colors. I can't wait to see what else you post! Best regards, Paul ...I'm back.

old bones
continued A few things that I am not sure of. B' is a bead, probably modern. Is 'A' shrimp fecal pellets? I thought this bone was distinctive...any guesses? I wonder what this item locked in matrix is. I found a picture of a very similar bone that was ID'd as an amphibian illium bone. What do you think? That is everything. Thanks for looking. Julianna

Sacha
Excellent post again Julianna. Your pictures make the collection of the matrix all worthwhile. This is definitely the creek that keeps on giving. I have shipped the last of my matrix to members last month. I'll try to get some more this fall so you'll have something to do next winter. In all my hunting I have only found one cow shark tooth down here : ) Thanks, Jeff. I was kind of surprised myself to find the cow shark tooth. I have been hunting for one a long time and expected it to be from Lee Creek. Just goes to show how varied the Florida creek finds are.
grandpa
These finds truly blow me away. I had a chance to hunt a river in Fla. once over a 3 day period. It was a very memorable experience. The fossils I found were different from your display, but were equally exciting and thrilling for me. Congrats. on your collection and its variety - bat teeth! How neat! jpc
Fun stuff and great pix. The bat tooth looks more modern than Miocene... basad on preservation alone. It looks rather different than all the others. The vert above the gar vert looks mammalian.

And, yes, figured that the bat tooth was probably modern...it's just so neat to find something that different in creek matrix.
