atpro5
Hello everyone, I am quite new to this so I was hoping someone could help me identify this fossil I picked up today in SW virginia. bone2stone
It may not be so much as a segment of a worm in as much as his home. It may be part of a tube worm "housing". Jess B. AT Pro, a Garrett fan? Finding anything with it?

cck
I would say it is a vug infilled with crystal of some sort. Any caves (limestone) near where you found it? Just a guess. I have some material that looks like this, and it really has the look of some biological origin, but it is purely geologic. Cool piece.
Auspex
It reminds me a little of a calcite stalactite formation, except for the lack of continuous growth rings.. cck
I'm thinking the interior crystal formation is a separate process, as in a geode. The 'channel' is formed by water through limestone.
atpro5
Yes there is a large limestone outcropping near by. Thank you everyone for your help!
