Too Many Choices
I'm going to be heading to Beaumaris Beach, Victoria, A.S.A.P for a bit of a fossick. First time I've ever done this. Here's some background reading: http://www.bayside.vic.gov.au/documents/Beaumaris_Bay_Fossil_Site.pdf http://www.marinecare.org.au/images/Fossils_of_Beaumaris_Feb_2015.pdf Now whats the general method? Find the layer that fossils are present in? How do I do that? Then what exactly am I looking for? Any advice would be great! I'll be sure to upload some photos! JimB88
start by making sure its legal to do so; then (if it is) examine the rocks that have fallen or the sediment at the base of the exposure for fossils. When found pay attention to the any matrix that may still be on the fossils and search for similar matrix. From the literature you provided it seems the best way is surface scanning for fossils that have weathered out. In other words walk, walk, walk... Too Many Choices
Big SUCCESS!!!!! I was super surprised to get a big haul of heart urchins, some bivalve shells, and a piece of coral! Here's the haul: I've got plenty of photos to come, I'll do some before and afters, and some of the area I found them in. I had a great time, shame I didn't find any teeth
