Teeth And Possible Bone Id

Hi everyone!

Recently, I picked up a big box of random shells from an Estate Sale. I finally got around to digging through it. At the bottom, mixed in with sand, were a bunch of litte teeth. Being from WI, I don't find shark/marine teeth. I have absolutely no idea who they belong to. Unfortunately, I also have no idea where they are from. The sale did have knick knacks saying, "I Love Florida!" and "Myrtle Beach". That really isn't anything to go on, though. What I can do is upload photos of the shells, if needed, to help pin down the area. The teeth seem to be agatized.

I took a lot of photos, so there will be a lot of replies to this with more pictures. I have mini groups, and then idividual front and back photos. Thank you all for your help and for bearing with me while I upload a zillion photos. I took them with a Canon DSLR on MACRO, but if you need more photos, I can get them for you.

Oh, does anyone have a book recommendation about fossil shark teeth? I'm a book person and need to be able to write, underline and highlight in my books.

Picutre 2: I think the first object is bone, but I could be wrong. Two and four I think are rocks, and three is possibly a mouth plate?

Those are all bones. (2nd pic) I'm afraid you will never know the exact species however.

You have some bull shark teeth as well as a ray plate. I am likely wrong, but the preservation reminds me of what's found in the rivers of South Carolina. I have bought some very similar teeth at a souvenir shop in Florida last year.

This is object 1, my possible bone. I'm having uploading issues so please let me know if there is a problem.

This is object 2, which I am pretty sure is a rock, but I thought I'd include it anyway just to be sure.

Hey TyrannosaurusRex! ALL bones AND a mouth plate?! How exciting! Do you have an idea of what time period they're from? Working on more pics. These teeth are so pretty. I'm a serious rockhound so anything that looks like this is heaven for me.

Seems I can only add three photos at a time. Oh, my cats, I have so many more!

What I'm going to do is add the set photos. If you'd like to see anything alone, let me know, and I'll upload a picture of it alone.

First set of teeth:

Bull, Tiger, Lemon

Second set of teeth:

Bull, Bull, and again, Bull

Third set of teeth:

Bull, Bull and a lemon.

The first bone looks like it has the texture of a scute. Yep that's definitely a ray plate! Nice! The other bones.....well sorry but I can't help haha. I got to go hunting down on Casperson beach last November. Never found anything big, but some nice teeth along with 22 ray plates and a drum plate. It was amazing and I would highly recommend it! Time period? I think some would call that the Pleistocene.

Here is the last set. Again, the back view photos aren't working, so I have two front view photos that did work. Thank you for your patience and help! I am thinking of putting them in those round, plastic single display boxes with foam and a label on the bottom. Is that a good idea?

THANK YOU!! I appreciate it so much! Sean (hubby) is from Baltimore so the next time we go to visit we're spending a few days in Calvert. I'm itching to go explore other areas of the country. Wisconsin is beautiful and amazing, but I want to see more.

Sorry, but all of those teeth are way to worn to assign an exact species ID to. The best you could say about any of them would possibly be Carcharhinus sp. And even that may be stretching it on some of them.

Thanks! They're so smooth. I figured they've been tossed around in water a lot throughout their life. Is it possible the previous owner put them in a rock tumbler? I know nothing about him/her aside of they really, really liked shells. The other teeth that I have (from flea markets) have serrations. This group is special because they're so smooth. Then again, if it comes from the natural world, I'm fascinated, like a little kid!

Beach finds. The smoothness is caused by the wave action rubbing the teeth & bones against sand grains for long periods of time. It has the same effect as putting them in a rock tumbler.
