Sotheby's & Christie's Auction Houses

I can't think of a better place to place this, but if I'm wrong, then Admin., please feel free to move this thread.

I'm curious if anyone has any experience selling with either of these, or any of the larger auction houses.

I attempted to go through Heritage, last year, but ... I backed out.

I know they charge higher fees than Ebay, to both the buyer and the seller, that's a given, but as far as the deeper pockets ... let's face it ... that's where they are.

Please feel free to PM me, also. I'm considering using them for some higher priced items.

Thanks,

Most of the dinosaur and shark dealers I'm familiar with have used Heritage and Bonham's auction houses. Sellers fees can be up to 20% so its steep and their are fees even if the item does not sell. They promise high returns but if you look at results only a few items deliver. Item needs to be sexy to command high bids. Handling is always an issue so if it's fragile and needs to be returned because of a no sale be concerned. Good place to sell high end items but there is no guarantee of a sale.
