aplomado
Is there a reasonable way to estimate the size of a Megalodon from tooth size? I've got a 5.3" tooth (measured along the longest edge) that I was told was an Upper Lateral tooth. The crown high is about 4 inches. Any way to estimate the size of the shark? Raggedy Man
A rough formula for calculating the size of a shark, using its teeth, is to measure the length of one side of the tooth in inches, then multiply by ten to calculate the total length of the shark in feet. This estimate only applies to large triangular-shaped teeth. Hope this helps! Best regards, Paul ...I'm back.
Auspex
This estimation is the roughest form of a S.W.A.G. There has been no ground-truthing of the formula. Still, it is a popular talking point.
