Lion'sDen
This is the craziest looking fossil I've come across. It was found in the Platteville limestone (Ordovician period) along the Mississippi river near St. Paul, Minnesota. It looks like the insides of a bivalve. I'd like to figure out what it is before I extract it. Any guesses? Thanks! Ipsa scientia potestas est. Nosce te ipsum.

Auspex
Indeed, a 'steinkern', where the shell has since dissolved leaving the sediment-filled interior exposed. A brachiopod, me thinks. Lion'sDen
Thank you both very much! It looks like there is still some shell left in there as well, so it should be fun extracting it. ~Troy Ipsa scientia potestas est. Nosce te ipsum.
