fossilized6s
I haven't really been on here in awhile. But I decided to join the land of the living once more and start doing what I love again. I had found this nodule at Fossil Rock a few weeks ago. Several freeze/thaw cycles later here she is. I knew I could clean it up and make it look presentable, so I took on the challenge. Plus it is my biggest specimen of A.serlii to date. Here she is glued back together. Then she needed a good soaking in vinegar. Sometimes I won't clean the Calcite off. But in this case it was covering most of the fine detail, so I did. Here she is cleaned and with a bit of prep work. Then I decided to restore it a bit using Magic Sculpt. Filling cracks adds stability as well as makes it pleasing to the eye. fossilized6s
Here she is finished. I still have a problem with my paint being too glossy, but whatever. And I could have restored more, but I didn't want to over do it. Imperfection is cool too. fossilized6s
Thanks, guys. I appreciate it. I'm glad I could bring this one back from the gravel pile. It should display nicely. Unfortunately this is pretty much what the future is for Mazon flora, considering all of the other great spots are closed or filled. ~Charlie~ "There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why.....i dream of things that never were, and ask why not?" ~RFK ->Get your Mosasaur print ->How to spot a fake Trilobite ->How to identify a CONCRETION from a DINOSAUR EGG

fossilized6s
Thanks, Rob. I told you it would turn out OK. Haha It's not an award winning piece, but worth the little effort that I put forth. ~Charlie~ "There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why.....i dream of things that never were, and ask why not?" ~RFK ->Get your Mosasaur print ->How to spot a fake Trilobite ->How to identify a CONCRETION from a DINOSAUR EGG

Auspex
Charlie, I bet there is a stool waiting for you at any museum prep lab/conservatory. Heck, you could even design/build the exhibit fixtures. digit
Another beautiful restoration. I would not have believed it possible had I not seen your earlier repairs. Impressed as usual. Cheers. -Ken

fossilized6s
Thanks, Ken and Ron. I appreciate that. I think I'm going to take Chas' kind words and run with it. I'm going to try and volunteer at a museum and see where it goes. I'm fedup with my stagnant existence. ~Charlie~ "There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why.....i dream of things that never were, and ask why not?" ~RFK ->Get your Mosasaur print ->How to spot a fake Trilobite ->How to identify a CONCRETION from a DINOSAUR EGG
