Darren Garrison
In addition to my paltry collection of found shark teeth shown here , I also have a collection of purchased ones that—while not world-class—isn’t too bad. Some of these are from Ebay; many others were bought from coastal tourist shops and from a river diver that sometimes sold various stuff at a local flea-market—both before Ebay became a “big deal” for selling fossils, and thus I paid less—sometimes much less—than Ebay prices for them. The nearly white meg at the top center of the large teeth was bought in a tourist trap and is dive collected in New Caledonia—it has been polished, but apparently the white color is the natural state of preservation there. These teeth come from the phosphate mines in Aurora, North Carolina. I didn’t have a chance to visit—I found someone on-line who sold small bags of gravel from there (for only a couple of bucks a bag, IIRC) that you could search yourself. A similar experience to my sorting through self-collected beach material, but much more shark rich. The big pile top center was bought all at once from a seller liqidating her father's estate. He had spent a life near the beach collecting teeth on his daily walks, and had many POUNDS of small teeth. I bought one lot out of many (Would have bought more, if I could have aforded them at the time.) Some of your standard Moroccan stuff. (I also have pounds more broken meg material ranging from small to heartbreakingly huge but too fragmented to post.) mrieder79
A fine collection. Luck is the most important skill of a fossil diver.
