Ivory?

Found this in a local creek in E. NC. I think it is a chunk of ivory. Unfortunately it broke while I was drying it off. I can see what really do appear to be shreger lines on the ends but unfortunately they aren't showing up well in pictures. The internal structure seems quite brittle.

Yep, that looks like ivory....Ivory is notorious about breaking as it dries, too.

We've found random pieces of mastodon and a decent gomphothere tooth at this site so there has to be a nice piece somewhere in there.
