StevenJD
Went to the Florissant fossil quarry, and found some nice fossils. Wondering if I could possibly get them ID'ed, since I'm a novice. Thanks.

izak_
Welcome to TFF! They are very cool finds! All I can say is the 1st one is an insect and the third a leaf, and thats it Good luck Izak
ckmerlin
Hi steven welcome to the forum I think the leaf may be Fagopsis longifolia which from my quick research seems to be a common species found at the quarry. But Im far from being a plant expert so it could be something different . Im not sure about the insect but ill keep looking Very nice specimens Best regards Chris 1 "A man who stares at a rock must have a lot on his mind... or nothing at all'
StevenJD
Hi ckmerlin, I think you nailed the leaf ID. Thanks! Thanks also to Charlie and Izak. I'm from Texas, but I am currently working in Colorado near the fossil quarry so I'll be back out there to see what else I can find.

Ramo
I love Florissant. A few years ago I left a small package of fossils hidden along the road near there. I posted directions to it but I don't think it was ever found. If you have the internet skills you can probably find the old post and stop and see if it's there. StevenJD
That sounds pretty cool! I'll have to see if can find that post. Nobody has claimed to find the package yet?
Ramo
I looked back at the post, and nobody has found it that I know of. Some sounded like some were going to look, but they never posted back. I left it there back in 2011, so it may not even be there anymore. I hope you find it. If you do let me know, I don't remember what I left in it anymore! Xiphactinus
There is a terrific book sold at the Fossil Beds park that you should look at getting. It really helps with the ID of the plants and insects. The Fossils of Florissant. Your fossil may actually be the species that is on the cover. http://www.amazon.com/Fossils-Florissant-Herbert-W-Meyer/dp/1588341070
StevenJD
I'll be going to the park this weekend then, and picking up that book. Thanks for the heads up!
