Gift From The Creek Saturday

Recommended Posts

Only found a few broken teeth, a hake fish vertebrae and this 4 1/2 inch meg this Saturday. I was hoping for a nice great white

before I left, but it was not to be this time. Although it has some peel on the bourlette and enamel and some dings, I was happy to

get the meg, because they are rare in this condition from the creek.

Hey greel, super find. That is worth the trip for sure! :D

Thanks fellas,

What's crazy is that I didn't see something that big in my shovel. I didn't see it until I sifted the dirt out of my screen. It's rather stunning

to look into your screen box and see something so large when you are used to teeth much smaller.

Roz,

Sorry. I just went to watch the youtube video of your mosasaur finds (great video). I shouldn't assume that members of this or any other site

are fellas. Folks is a better term to use. Very red-faced.

Very nice find! Are teeth in that good of condition & that size hard to find?

Mike,

They are hard to find in the creek where I'm digging. They are usually found so worn that its hard to tell it was once a megalodon tooth or

with the enamel and serrations present but broken (vertically) right down the center of the tooth. The movement of water or tumbling action

of the creek takes its toll. Of course at the Lee Creek Mine in Aurora. you find land megs in the dump piles that have nicer color and are in

much nicer condition. It's just hard to get into the mine - they allow groups or clubs to visit once each spring and fall (sometimes a season

dig will even get cancelled).

Oh, no problem at all. I think my name throws a lot of people off.

Don't feel bad, a lot of my mail in the past has been addressed to Ron, Rob,

everything but Roz

Can imagine your excitement when something that large got caught in your

screen! When I lived in Arkansas last year, most of the teeth I found there were small, some down-right

tiny. Think I may have hit the ground if I found one that size..
