okaroo
Good day to all of you.I have come to discover an amazing site in a remote location of the Serengeti: a dry river bed with hundreds of bones and what looks like stone tools too. The relevant authorities have been informed and i am still waiting for their visit.I have attached a few pics of what i found. Owing to the park rules, I may not pick up a few samples for proper photos. So i tried what i could Since we are not very far from Olduvai Gorge, i do believe this site to be of high importance. I would really appreciate any info on the pictured findings I am going to the site again this afternoon and will try to find bigger pieces and make also better pictures... Hoping to hear from you soon, Best regards, Okaroo
Mike from North Queensland
Welcome to the forum Okaroo some nice finds. Mammals are not my thing but appears you have an isolated tooth and another bone in the first photo, a horn core in the second, a tail vertebra in the third and a tooth in a jaw fragment in the forth. These are possibly all from the same animal and it was a herbivore. Mike D
abyssunder
My first thought is that are Bos or Bison remains, M3 molar in the first pic., a horn in the second pic. Nice finds. 1 " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. okaroo
Ok, first of all thank you again, superb community I am back from the site again. Did not find big pieces (which i was hoping for ) but still found many many teeth, jaws, inner bony part of horns and many stone tools too. Also did manage to find traces of old settlement with clay pieces and old "wells".... I know there are many more things to find but i do not want to "disturb" the site: i just wish the specialists could be here yesterday Also could not reach where i wanted to go owing to big herds of elephants and buffaloes... as soon as i can will definitely explore further !I will post more shots tomorrow. Have a great evening ! Edited September 13, 2015 by okaroo

okaroo
Good afternoon ! a little update on the site. The relevant authorities came to inspect and they are absolutely blown away by the discovery. Many bones of extinct species were discovered as well as animal tracks solidified on the rock... I am refraining from posting too much until they "officialize" exactly what has been found. Keep an eye on the post, i think we will all be very pleased soon... Have a great day ! Pagurus
Thank you for sharing your adventure and discoveries here on the fossil forum. I know I will never have the chance to visit the Serengeti myself. I'm very glad that the people who came to investigate are excited about your finds. When you feel the time is right I'm looking forward to hearing (and seeing) more! 1 Start the day with a smile and get it over with.
Mike from North Queensland
Congratulations on your find and especially they way you handled it with the authorities. It sounds as if this could be a very important butchering or staging site for early humans. Mike D'Arcy
