After a longer break, I was able to hunt my favourite strata again. Friend and I did hunt at a Triassic site of Ladinian age. I found a covered ammonoid lense with different good preserved ammonoid species. The first visible ammonoid was a Gymnites sp. post-2660-0-85581600-1443457541_thumb.jpg

Hi,

first prep results of the second pic above.post-2660-0-06594300-1453573713_thumb.jpg It is not finished at all. I have to wait for warmer weather to do the finish outside of my lab.

Meanwhile i can work on my current project from the same location.post-2660-0-36639300-1453574313_thumb.jpg The big one is the same species of Ptychites like the one on the first pic. I never thought that they change their shape so much when full grown up.

That definitely looks like FOTM when you finish prepping it. Congratulations on your work so far and a spectacular find.

The Ptychites in the first photo looks great. Is everything in the second photo parts of a puzzle?

@Tim, It definitly was more than one great trip for me. I never found an untouched fossil accumulation like this one. Mostly big ammonoides were deposited therein probably sorted by deepwater currents.

@Icordova, For me it is a killer piece too :)
