Possible Petrified Wood?

I have a small collection of petrified wood that I collect from river rock used for landscaping. I have found several pieces in my backyard and in my grandmother's backyard (I will have to check her front now since she got some new river rock installed). Sometimes I think I grabbed a piece, but later I question myself. Can I get come clarification??

I have seen pictures of petrified wood that sometimes look similar, but I just wanted to clarify (I'm still learning).post-14138-0-89044100-1445046373_thumb.jpg

I think this one is just a stratified sedimentary rock.

Just a note: personally I believe it's best in most cases to photograph specimens when they are dry. Perhaps both ways if you think it's an exception.

I think it could be banded chert.
