But I am stumped as to why there is a black layer that goes all the way around and lies between the pale layer and the brown layer. Any thoughts as to why PW4 has this black layer?? Mark89 Posted October 27, 2015 Share Posted October 27, 2015 Some nice pieces you have here. Petrified wood are some of my favourite things to find. Do you have more or larger items? I have a 3ft tall by 2ft round piece I found several years ago in an abandoned gold mine. Has a beautifully preserved Beatle in the bark. I'll try and post a picture.
