Is this petrified wood or a rock?

Hello,

My grandma wanted me to check if this may be a large piece of petrified wood? I tried to get decent photos on my ipod.

This piece is about 10.5 inches long (at it's longest point) and weighs nearly 15-lbs.

I don't see ant grain texture, so I don't think it is petrified wood, rather some sort of layered rock.

That first picture looks like there's something growing in the crack.

There were weeds growing in there, but I plucked them off.

The second picture is the detail that caught my attention, but I wasn't really sure.

You may have to take pictures with better lighting and probably with a better camera.

Check for it to look like wood.

That's definitely the crux of the matter, isn't it!? :D

I think it's sediment rock. The piece pictured is around a foot long and weighs over 200 lbs. I will post some pics of some more so you can compare.
