Wouldnt it be great if all the nodules ive found over the last year were to prep themselves! Its gonna take me years plus a few new tools I think to get through this lot!! But on the plus side, who knows what treasures I mightifind inside them! :-D

You have some nice crabs there. I agree with Sacha... do you have anything to show off that you have already prepped. I know prepping these is not easy.

This was my first crab find. Think its about as well prepped as im gonna get it with the tools I have. Also the claw was unfortunately on a piece of the nodule that had broken off when I found it.

Was trying to prep this little crab and noticed it appears to have been half eaten! What do you think?

Not bad...

Is it possible to reattach the claw?

Not half eaten,... Looks like the nodule broke, and took some pieces of the crab with it.

It may be possible to re-attach but it is on a fairly thin piece of matrix and quite brittle so I didnt want to man hamdle it too much in fear of breaking it.

Regards,

Ah thats a shame I was hoping for the more interesting story line of being eaten. It just looks like a perfect shape for a bite going at an angle across the crab it even has a curved edge instead of the straight edge I would have thought a break would give?

I think a more logical explanation is that the nodule broke, and the stone has been weathered.

Nodules tend to break a bit differently than say, ... shale, limestone, or sandstone.

In fact, many of the nodules/concretions I have split don't break cleanly, and often, due to the concentric layering of the nodules or concretions, they will crack with a curve out on one side, and a curve in on the other side.
