Mahantango Fossil ID (3)

Found at Seven Stars, Pa location.

Both fossil face & matrix back shown.

Size is 2 1/4" long x 1 1/2" wide.

Hey M2R,

That's a pretty cool fossil. You have, on the left hand side, a partial pelecypod (clam, bivalve).

The smooth, oval, striated part.

On the right, the bumpy looking part, is an external mold of a coral - Pleurodictyum sp.

Both are Devonian in age.

Neat find, for sure. :)

I think the area that is a clam/bivalve looks like crunchy peanut butter would look like if u had a lump of it on the counter and you cupped your hand to clean it up and it smeared as you wiped and ended up being the coral. If that makes sense. I was thinking it was all the same fossil instead of 2 different ones.
