typhis
They all look like Tamiami Formation (Pliocene, formerly called "Pinecrest Beds") to me, as opposed to Caloosahatchee, given the locality. The Chicoreus is C. floridanus, EH Vokes, 1965.
MarcoSr
Coco Really nice pictures. I can't help much with identification but the first picture looks like barnacles. abyssunder
14 - The left one is Septastrea marylandica, but the right one looks to be different, or is other S. sp., or is like Montastraea sp. I'm not sure for that. " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. MikeR
Hi Coco Although barnacles are difficult to identify without the associated inner plates as a general rule there are three common barnacles in the Tamiami: large massive species from Bed 10/11 are Chesaconcavus tamiamiensis (Ross, 1964), the non-descript gray species is Balanus newburnensis Weisbord, 1966 and the attractive red barnacle is Balanus sarasotaensis Weisbord, 1981. The interesting barnacle that you picture attached to the bryozoa is a coral barnacle probably Ceratoconcha prefloridana (Brooks & Ross, 1960). MikeR
The gastropods from top to bottom are as follows: operculum Naticarius plicatella (conrad, 1863) Solenoisteira vaughani Dall, 1903 A. nobilis is correct Chicoreus floridana E. Vokes, 1965 Crucibulum scutellatum (Wood, 1828) C. lunata is correct Heilprinia carolinensis (Dall, 1892) Hystrivasum squamosum (Hollister, 1971) Hystrivasum locklini (Olsson & Harbison, 1953) Chicoreus floridana E. Vokes, 1965 Pusula crovoae Olsson, 1967 Strombus floridanus Mansfield, 1930 Subpterynotus textilis (Gabb, 1873) The operculum is probably to Turbo lindae Petuch, 1994 The coral is indeed Septastrea marylandica "A problem solved is a problem caused"--Karl Pilkington "I was dead for millions of years before I was born and it never inconvenienced me a bit." -- Mark Twain
