Found these today on a mountain in Western MD that was full of these rocks. Only a few here and there had these imprints. If anyone knows what these could be it would be greatly apprciated.

Thanks for any info,

1 and 4 look like calcite or gypsum crystals

2 is a very cool trace fossil

3 I can't tell

Wow Herb, without reading your response, I was about to give the same answers verbatim. #3 needs a better picture. Is #2 transportable?

Is there any reason why we can rule out the ichnofossils Chondrites or Palaeophycus for #1 and #4 ?

I would say all are ichnofossils.

Thanks everyone for the responses. The rocks are very plentiful around here. You can find that ichno fossil pattern on some of the rocks used to build the house I'm in. The trace fossil/ichno fossil I have never seen before. It's too bad that most of the rocks with these patterns are way too big to take home.

Regards,

no, can't rule anything out. Could be.
