Raptor Lover
Hey fellow members, I got my first trilobite today at my local fossil shop. I don't know the locality where it was found. Does anyone know what species it is? Thanks -Cameron "Or speak to the earth, and let it teach you" Job 12:
abyssunder
Congrats for your first trilo! Looks like Phacops rana, for me. Raptor Lover
Congrats for your first trilo! Looks like Phacops rana, for me. Thank you! After looking up different trilos, I was thinking Phacops haha. "Or speak to the earth, and let it teach you" Job 12:

With that array of lenses, Boeckops stelcki appears to be the best match. The attached figure shows the maximum possible number of eye lenses for the vertical files (up to eight or can be less). McKellar, R.C., & Chatterton, B.D.E. (2009) Early and Middle Devonian Phacopidae (Trilobita) of southern Morocco. I don't really know anything about trilos, so thank you "Or speak to the earth, and let it teach you" Job 12:
abyssunder
Probably you're right, piranha, but for me Barrandeops granulops (Chatterton et al., 2006) looks also a possibility. What do you think, could be? What do you think, could be? 1.jpgBarrandeops granulops.jpg Yes, I'm aware of Barrandeops granulops, it has a maximum number of 4-6 lenses per file. The posted specimen has eye damage but in my estimation it has files with 7-8 lenses. Look again at the eyes in a side by side comparison, B. granulops clearly has fewer lenses.
Malcolmt
Definitely from Morocco and definitely has at least 7 lenses in the middle file perhaps 8 depending on that break at the top.

Here's another comparison of the eyes, this time with an overlay diagram for the lens configuration comparing Boeckops with Barrandeops. With variability there can be fewer lenses in any given file, not more. Of all the Moroccan phacopids, Boeckops stelcki appears to be the best match.
