I had to get some of the "frog toe" matrix from Sacha! (Thanks John for making this available!)

This is the first things that I have found....(I have no idea as to what they are.)

Scale is millimeters.

Here is what I can guess, but the pix are pretty out of focus when I click on them.

Second post... maybe a lizard jaw, a lizard jaw and amammal (rodent?) calcaneum.

4th post... shrew jaw and rabbit tooth.

5thpost... ?? and a possibnle snake vert.

Good stuff.

If the second picture in the 4th post is a rabbit tooth, the first picture in the 5th poat looks like a partial rabbit tooth

Don't print the label yet, as I may be off-base, but this deserves following-up:

Possibly, this might be an avian cervical...

Thank You for the replies. I think that I will revisit the microscope and try to improve the picture quality.

Please stay tuned...

Nice finds Tony, that's some very unique matrix: )

Every once in a great while it's not just a big rock down there!

Thanks Jeff. I am liking it a lot, even though the bones are a little bare. It is My first non-marine fossil matrix.

The last figure in post 2 and the middle in post 3 are both astragali. They do appear to be rodents.

Yes... astragali... not calcaneum. My bad. And yes, there are two of them.

I am a little confused. I "googled" astragali and got chinese herbal medicines. I know considerably less about bones than I do about the shark teeth, but am reasonably sure they are not members of the plant family. What am I missing here?

Thanks for the help!

Try astragalus, Tony. Astragali is plural. :)

These are nice finds, Tony. We are each finding something a little different in this matrix. I real like the tiny jaw bone in post 4.

Thank You Julianna. Wish My pictures would come out as good as Yours and Marko sr.'s do.

You've been making some nice finds in all that matrix, Tony. I'm still working on mine. I've looked through about half of it. I know there's a lot that I missed and I'll be going through it all again.

As for your internet search, try looking for "astragalus bone." Link

Here's one diagram I found that seems helpful. I'm sure there are better ones as well.

Really nice specimens. The Merritt Island matrix has a lot of different terrestrial species that we don't normally see posted on TFF.

The more pictures that you take the better they will get. I probably took over 5,000 pictures of micros over the last few years. Unfortunately I lost almost all of them when my hard drive crashed a few months back.

Thanks Mike, I like the few that You posted, looks like You are off to a good start Yourself! It is kind of like playing the shell game, You have to look under every single clam shell.

Also thanks for the link-- now I understand, (never studied anatomy either.)

Thanks Marco. It is nice to see something a little different from what is usually within the scope of collecting. It is also kind of like We are all on the same fossil hunting trip together! (even though We have not actually met.)

I am having such a hard time sorting out the shark teeth that I do not want to get more confused with this new material. (Is that bad of Me?)

Sorry to hear that You lost Your album. I hate it when that happens.
