Odd Florida shark tooth

I found this tooth recently and am not sure if it's a pathological Meg or possibly a Parotodus but not even sure if the later is even found here  It's a partial unfortunately but enough is there to hopefully ID it. There doesn't appear to have ever been serrations on it although it is a bit worn. Thanks for looking :)

Thank you folks, can anyone confirm if any have ever been found in Florida? I read they were supposed to be dispersed throughout the globe but haven't found even another scrap of one personally

I know someone who has a few Parotodus benedeni from the St. John's river area near Jacksonville and have seen them in person. I also was told by someone in South Carolina that he did have one from "a river in northern Florida" but I don't know which river and I never saw it in person. But I have no reason to doubt the person in SC.

I seem to recall that Steve Alter found one on or near Venice beach as a kid but I could be mis-remembering.

That is an absolutely amazing find! P. benedeni was supposed to be wide ranging (although rare) and I have heard of teeth being found in Florida. Assuming you found it in your area, it fits in the temporal range that the species is known from. I think you hit the jackpot. :fistbump:

Very nice, Jeff! I've heard of one from the Venice area, the rest are from the St. Johns. I believe FLMNH has a composite jaw on display.

Very nice find. I have a 2 1/4" Parotodus from the St. John's river, so I can also confirm they are around. My collection also includes five others from different localities in florida

These are rare anywhere, but in FL they are practically mythical.

A Florida Parotodus is very high on my wish list. I am very happy you found it and didn't toss it back because it isn't 100% complete. I doubt I will ever find one but that won't stop me from looking!
