misfit62
This egg shaped specimen is from the western great basin, found in a recent washout of loose sediment. There are other specimens and what appear to be fossilized bones in the photos provided. I inadvertently stepped on some before realizing what they were, but the disturbed area is minimal.winter is just beginning in the area so weather has not been extreme up to now. Know idea how long the site was exposed but no evidence of others having disturbed the area. I'm strictly amateur hiker but the terrain is obviously volcanic formation I can describe site more accurately if interested. The only egg shape I disturbed was split and the two halves were approx 3ft apart and fit together as seen in photos. I moistened the surface to highlight detail of embryo
LordTrilobite
Looks like a concretion to me. Sorry. I don't see any shell structure that separates the inside from the outside. And that kind of colouration on teh inside is typical for concretions. Though concretions sometimes contain cool stuff. It does look like there might be something there in the middle even if it's not an egg or embryo. Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite
abyssunder
I agree.Unfortunately is not a fossil egg, looks more like a concretion formed around a central core. According to that it was found in Volcanic area, my idea is that could be volcanic bomb agglomerate, with a pyroclastic core. Maybe it's an Ignimbrite ball. Fossildude19
It is a Concretion, not an egg. Concretions are often mis-identified as eggs. JustPlainPetrified
I got pretty excited about my first 'egg' back in 2011. Darn concretions always stir me up, but they do contain fossils that continue to make me happy and curious...
jpc
Yeah... concretion. Now ask RB about his crabs... he really is a kazzillionaire but won't admit it.
