RJB
Hmmmmmm,,,, been to a lot of fossil sites in Oregon. Never found a sharks tooth. Guess I wasn't in the right place. That one is quite nice paul!
PRK
Hi Ron, You were probably in the right place, however as I said, shark teeth are few and far between (ie rare) Keep in mind I lived on the Oregon coast for 10years and collected there almost every day

PRK
Luckily only the root was exposed in a high traffic area. Making it difficult to spot as a shark tooth
uncoat
Here are a few shark bits from the Oregon coast. The first is a unprepared shark tooth from the Astoria Fm. The second is a vert from the Nye Fm. Unfortunately the vert is incomplete. The diameter of the vert is of just over three inches. - Nick Edit: Smaller photos. uncoat
Great stuff PRK! Is that Des tooth and jaw from the Astoria Fm.? Interesting fish skull. Is it a side profile?
PRK
Yes, desmo is from the Astoria fm. Enlarge the upper jaw to answer your question. Also from the Astoria
uncoat
Nice Desmo! Was that one loose or in matrix when you collected it? I did enlarge the fish photo but i still could not quite tell. Most of the fish i find out there are either isolated brain cases or partially articulated side profile bones that make up the skull. I have also found a few flat, top up fish that are somewhat articulated but these seem to be a lot less common. I couldn't tell for sure if we are looking at the top or the side. - Nick
PRK
I had to prep that desmo free of a concretion.
