old bones
I had saved a cup or so of the dregs off the bottom of a gallon bag of Peace River matrix a while ago. I wanted to see if the really tiny stuff had any more of the 'cats paw' denticles like the one I found here. ; Peace River Find For I D Please - Fossil ID - The Fossil Forum I went thru it today, and found another! This one is better preserved on the dorsal side, but doesn't have the detail on the base like the first. It is really worth checking the tiny, sandy stuff at the bottom of a batch of matrix. married2rick
I did a quick google search on cats paw denticle and all I got were images of cats, lol. Forgive me for not knowing, but what is a cats paw denticle?

Forgive me for not knowing, but what is a cats paw denticle? Sorry to send you off on a wild goose chase. I just called it that because it resembled a shell that has that common name. It is actually (probably) from a shark or ray.

digit
Another cool micro. I love the fact that you searched the 'dregs' just to see if you could pull another rare find like this--and then did! Astounding! I'm all out of my Peace River, Horse Creek, and Cookiecutter Creek micro-matrix hoards but I still have half a bucket of matrix from Rattlesnake Creek. On morning when I'm not overworked on other projects I like to sit down with a cup of that and continue my quest for the perfect Nurse Shark tooth. I know it's in there--just hopefully not in the 'dregs' at the very bottom of the bucket. When I next meet-up with John (Sacha) I hope to receive my reserved allotment of the wondrous 'Frog Toe Matrix' from Merritt Island. I'm also heading over to the Ernst Quarries for a day in a couple of weeks and hope to bring back a good quantity of Shark Tooth Hill micro-matrix which looks quite amazing from what I've seen. I really do need to get myself a decent macro lens for my DSLR--I think I'll be needing it soon. Cheers. -Ken

I now have two, and I am going to be looking very hard for more when I search the Peace matrix. These are so different! Julianna Another cool micro. Cheers. -Ken Ken, if you do get some more Peace matrix, you just have to keep your eyes open for these. I think they have been overlooked. Rattlesnake Creek is a fine way to hunt ... great stuff in there and very nice nurse shark teeth. You are going to love the variety in the Frog Toe matrix. Every spoonful has something new in it. Good luck at the Ernst Quarries and I look forward to seeing your finds. Julianna
