GeschWhat
I'm thinking it is a drum tooth. I don't know if you can tell from the photos, but the little nipple thing is on the inside of the cup, and the hole is on the convex side. Are drum teeth like that? I have found a number of drum teeth in the matrix in a variety of shapes and sizes, but none are like this. You may be right, but looking up drum teeth online, I can't find anything similar. GeschWhat
I have taken some photos at different angles with my regular camera and added them to the views of those I took under the microscope with my iPod. I don't know if this helps. I have another interesting concave piece that I think might be part of a scute as well, but I haven't photographed it yet. fossilized6s
I agree with drum tooth, it's just a cap. ~Charlie~ "There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why.....i dream of things that never were, and ask why not?" ~RFK ->Get your Mosasaur print ->How to spot a fake Trilobite ->How to identify a CONCRETION from a DINOSAUR EGG
old bones
Lori, I have found quite a few of these in various matrices. Here is a picture from when I started that shows the same kind of tooth still intact. Charlie is right, it is a cap.
GeschWhat
I was really hoping it was something unique. I guess it threw me because the protruding nipple-like thing is in the bottom of the concave portion. I feel so drum Lori www.areallycrappystory.com/fossils www.facebook.com/fossilpoo
