What's a claw core?

Hello, I've been looking around and see all sorts of claws being listed as cores, what does this mean?

A claw core is the distal phalanx, the very last bone in the hands and feet. Think of your finger nail being your claw, the tiny bone underneath would be the claw core.

Here is a photo to show a claw sheath covering the core . The core is what fossilizes and is typically called a claw.
