Hi, I found this croc tooth for sale and it's labeled as Sarcosuchus. If it is Sarcosuchus, I want to buy it. They didn't put very much info about it, just that it is from Africa. Any help?

It is only 2 cm long. Question is... Are there good characters that can ID a Sarcosuchus tooth other than huge size? At 2 cm it is way too small to call it on size alone.

That is a good point. I think this will still be a good addition to my collection if I choose to buy it

Yeah I don't think it'll be Sarco. Anything in Africa is hard to identify because not much is known about dinos and such from there

There is a huge variety of crocs known from the Cretaceous of the Sahara. More than just the big guy.

Judging by the pictures I have seen on google, sarcosuchus teeth have 'ribs' that are sort of close together. But I am no exptert.

There are about 8-10 described Croc's from Morocco and I believe Sarcosuchus is not one of them although it might be present in that fauna. I see a lot of sellers using that name to help sales but I'm very skeptical that any of those teeth are Sarco.

Here is a plate from the paper. Scale of E & F is 1cm. Looks like a smooth tooth with a center ridge

Here are images off of Wikipedia of some teeth but cannot verify they are Sarco but are consistent with the paper.

The only place in the world which yields Sarcosuchus teeth on a commercial basis is Gadoufaoua from Niger.

There are tonnes of Moroccan croc teeth being sold as Sarcosuchus; avoid those. Unless your teeth comes from Niger, they aren't the terrible croc.

Here's mine

Looking forward to meeting my fellow Singaporean collectors! Do PM me if you are a Singaporean, or an overseas fossil-collector coming here for a holiday!

Thanks guys! It's a cool little croc tooth but not a Sarco. It's at a good price too but I'm gonna go for that Hell Creek claw

There is a French fellow that sells Sarco teeth/remains from Niger that can be contacted online. He might help with your ID. C.P. Sheridan
