fossilsrock
Edit: Check page 2 for the new stuff! I made some chocolate Megalodon teeth today! Need: Silicone putty. I found some at a craft supply store called Michael's. The one I used is called Amazing Mold Putty, but there are other brands, too. Just make sure it mentions being food-safe or non-toxic. Just mash the mold mix onto a tooth and let it sit for 30 minutes. It peels off (the tooth doesn't get damaged!) and comes out like this: You even get striations and serrations! I molded 3 megs and my wife molded a fossil scallop. Heat up some white chocolate on a double-boiler and use a small brush to apply a not-too-thick coat of white chocolate into the mold where the enamel is. Wait for that to solidify in the mold, then heat up some milk chocolate and fill the mold up with a spoon. Then let it harden up on its own, or throw it in the freezer if you're impatient like me. Auspex
Outstanding! What a great post of a great idea How many times do you think the molds can be used? fossilsrock
Outstanding! What a great post of a great idea How many times do you think the molds can be used? I plan on making a bunch as gifts next time I have a day off work, I'll let you know how well they keep up. I made the molds thick all around for strength. They're flexible rubber, so they won't break like a plaster mold. It's possible to tear it if you aren't careful in removing the tooth/chocolate, but I think they'd still hold chocolate even with a tear.
