Story69
Hello everyone - I was recently on a camping trip North of Giddings, Texas and while out looking for fossils, my son and I found these along with lots of petrified wood. Someone has suggested that the two pieces with the "lines" might be either mammoth teeth or primitive shark pads. Can anyone help? They're relatively small for mammoth teeth, but they do look similar. Also included in the find was some kind of completely fossilized bone. It was laying right on top of some mud around a tank. love to know what that might be. And finally, we found a small rock with some interesting layers. This one is a mystery. Almost looks like bone as well. Thank you all for any help you can offer.
JohnJ
The first image with the two rocks are most likely banded chert with a patinated surface. The second item looks like the broken "hinge" of a large oyster shell - possibly not a fossil. Not sure if the large piece is bone; but it could be modern bone with a carbonate coating deposited on it via creek or spring water. The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ
