My Riker Box collections

-Andy-

Recommended Posts

Riker boxes make up a huge part of my collection. They offer protection from the elements, make for a presentable display, and are easy to handle.

First up are my largest rikers, at 16.1" x 12.1" x 2".

Looking forward to meeting my fellow Singaporean collectors! Do PM me if you are a Singaporean, or an overseas fossil-collector coming here for a holiday!

16 inch rikers with an 8 inch riker in the center. This is a temporary display; I have several empty boxes ready in case I need to set something up for an exhibit.

And now for my 12" x 8.1" x 0.75" rikers.

Andy, you do a great job displaying your collection, the labels are great. Makes your specimens look super. Rikers are key in my collection and perfect for small items.

Very nice. I am moving a portion of my collection to Riker mounts and I am trying to figure out  how and where to affix  the labels. Are yours on the inside of the glass? I have done a couple of test runs with the labels on the matting and that did not work out well.

I have and always will seriously love these collections, they are practically where all of my inspirations in collecting come from.

If you're a fossil nut from Palos Verdes, San Pedro, Redondo Beach, or Torrance, feel free to shoot me a PM!

Yes, all my labels are inside the glass. I get what you mean, it isn't always easy to put labels on the matting. Here are four options:

For irregular sized fossils where the matting cannot support any labels, I use tiny specks of blu-tack to stick the label on the glass. You can check out the 16" Ammonite riker to see this.

For regular sized fossils where the matting is just barely high enough to support the labels, I use cardboard paper to add thickness to the labels so they are held firmly between glass and matting. You can check out the 16" Predators of the Cretaceous Seas riker to see this.

For smaller rikers (8" or smaller), I print out a label slightly bigger than the display area so I can put blu-tack on the hidden ends to stick it on the glass. You can check out the 8" Eggshell set to see this.

Lastly, there are some fossils that are of the exact right size that the matting pushes the label against the glass without any extra work. You can check out the 12" Fossil Jewelry/Mineral riker to see this.

Thank you. I am using the thickest photo paper I can find and it is working better for the 3/4" riker boxes where I am attaching the label to the mat. I am using just a touch of children's Elmer's glue to set the label in place.

Again you have a very nice collection.
