I took my first plunge into the Pennsylvanian on February 13th, with a trip to Mineral Wells Fossil Park in Mineral Wells, TX.

I think this may be my first trilobite find. Looks to be a partial thorax.

I wasn't sure WHAT this was at first. Looked a bit like tooth enamel in the field. After cleaning, it looks to be a broken bit of shell from some sea critter or other.

Wasn't sure what this was at first, either. It's since been IDed as probably part of a crinoid calyx.

2 possible corals at top (1 on the left with attached bryozoan), at the bottom another brachiopod.

Micro-brachiopods, and a closeup of one of shells.

2 micro Pentaridica crinoid columnals at bottom, and a piece that I'm not sure of at the top. I first thought it to be part of a gastropod shell, now I wonder if it might be the broken-off spine attachment point from an Archaeocidaris echinoid plate?

Almost forgot these, closeups of the fossils attached to the nodules pictured in an earlier reply. Tiny things, all less than 1cm long.

And now, some in-situ shots of fossils at the park. Color's a bit off, my phone camera was making with some wonky lighting. I've color-corrected as best I can.

Great Pennsylvanian fossils! I love the in situ shots.

I want to go collect fossils, but it's just too darn cold outside. You southerners are lucky! :envy:

Dang Mike you sure got good eyes!

Such tiny specimens.

My kinda stuff.

I like tiny. You can emass a huge collection in one frame.

Unfortunately most are bits and pieces at the M.W. park.

When the Bridgeport lake goes back down I need to take you to some places and load you up with some Stuff, including some trilos.

My avatar is a prime example.

But for a first time there you did all-right.

Congratulations. Real nice collection from there. Love the preservation on the crinoid stems and brachiopods. Have to get out there someday.

Thanks, but my eyes are garbage. That was all due to wearing kneepads & actually lying flat on the ground with my nose almost in the dirt. (And I usually managed to lie right on top of one of the many burrs that infest that place. OW.)

Thanks, it'll be well worth the trip! I left far more than I brought home. Physically impossible to carry everything you'll find in 1 trip there.
