some kind of small elements from the Peedee Formation of North Carolina

A friend of mine has found these elements in the loose arenite lithology of the Rocky Point Member, Peedee Formation, Maastrichtian, Late Cretaceous. The scale is MM so they are approximately 5MM longest. Not sure if this should have been posted to the micro section but a fifth of an inch is pretty big to me. Microcrinoid and Ophiuroid material has been found in the same sediments but these things don't look right as echinoderm elements to me.

yes, they all share that feature raggedy Man.

Don't know why I didn't think of that Al dente! A pretty obvious possibility. Have only ever looked closely at the smooth eocene sea star elements. The actual elements are in Martinsburg VA so not at hand. Will check out ornamentation on Aldebarania plates tonight. thanks

Isolated plates from Aldebarania arenitea?

attachicon.gifaa.JPG

looked at my only Aldebarania arm that isn't frosted and don't see the structure present in these items. Here are some pics of Aldebarania individual elements. Hard to see in the pics but Aldebarania appears to be thicker and smoother that what was in the original post.post-1757-0-40719900-1457971594_thumb.jpg
