sharptooth79
Hi guys, just wondering what can it be. This round ball is 0.6in (15.5mm) in diameter, weight is around 15gr. Very solid looking ball with yellow (canary) inner part and white shell looking outer part. Can you please help me to identify what can it possibly be. Cheers. Ludwigia
It could be any of a number of things ranging from concretion to sponge fossil or even something man made. It would help the identification process along if you would follow the instructions for posting in this section by naming the outcrop, location and also the precise geological age of the sediments where found if possible. Fossildude19
Sorry, but I'm just seeing a water tumbled/shaped round rock. It could be a concretion. As Ludwigia mentioned, please tell us where it was found, and what other fossils are found in the area, if any. If you know the geologic age that info is helpful as well. Ludwigia
Can't say much more than I've already said then. Sorry. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
ynot
It looks like an agate "shell" over calcite. Have You tried a drop of vinegar to see if the yellow part fizzes. I think it is an agate nodule that is filled with calcite and river tumbled. Tony Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." supertramp
sharptooth79, given weight and dimension, we have a density approximately of 7,7 gr/cm3…some mistakes?
Scylla
At first glance I thought it was just an old egg yolk from a very hard boiled egg. Then I thought it could be a jawbreaker, is it sweet when you lick it? If not, then concretion looks most likely.
