Jamzman
Can anyone tell me if I am on the right track. I collected this fossil in a creek bed in North Texas consisting of mostly upper cretaceous limestone with many bivalves, ammonites, etc. It appears to be a scapula to me possibly from a plesiosaur. Can anyone offer any input? Edited April 4, 2016 by Jamzman

JohnJ
Your images are not clear enough to see any indication it is bone. Do you have pics that show the texture of bone? The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ
Fossildude19
Looks like a suggestively shaped piece of limestone to me. I'm not seeing any bone structure. Jamzman
Your images are not clear enough to see any indication it is bone. Do you have pics that show the texture of bone? Here are a couple of closeups. It appears to have a spine or linea in the appropriate position for a scapula and several foramen as the one shown in the first image. JohnJ
Thanks for the extra photos, but I still don't see anything to indicate it is bone vs. limestone. The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ
Jamzman
Thanks for the extra photos, but I still don't see anything to indicate it is bone vs. limestone.I can't say that I am certain it is bone either as the striations are far less pronounced than other bone fossils that I have. The cancellous portion is also less pronounced. However. I can see enough linear striations that follow the contours of the specimen to be at least 50% convinced that it is of biological origin. Here are a few more pictures. I am not sure they will help as the striations are very hard to see in the photos. Thanks for your input.
jpc
Thanks for additional pix. I am not seeing any bone texture in there... sorry to say.
Mike Pocock
Hi Sorry I think that I have to agree I cant see any structure that suggests its bone. It is suggestive in shape but bone shaped rock is more common that you may think. Regards Mike
