The area is part of the Narragansett Bay Group, - the plant fossils are likely from the Rhode Island Formation, but could also be from the Wamsutta Formation. Both Pennsylvanian in age - The Rhode Island Formation is Middle and Late Pennsylvanian, while the Wamsutta Formation is Early to Middle Pennsylvanian.
