Appraising Fossils

Howdy,

I'm not actively attempting to sell this find, but am curious to hear your thoughts as to the value of this particular specimen. It was removed from a large block of limestone.

The shell was mostly preserved, as it was facing inward.

The matrix was carefully worked near the opening, revealing a more solid mass of forms underneath. I believe that in this case there is some soft tissue preservation near the opening.

I know that's a bit incendiary, but the textures definitely resemble snail skin.

The most amazing thing about this specimen is the crystallization, which can bee seen on the right.

Thanks!

Yeah, we are not professional appraisers.

... and didn't already have a discussion about the soft tissue?

Cool as this gastropod find may be, especially when self found, I honestly feel that it would languish on the auction block.
