McHorse
Hi all, This is a very long shot, however is it possible to identify what sort of animal this bone may have came from based on texture alone? It was found in 2.5 mya marine sediment at Motunau beach, NZ. Thanks all

Mike from North Queensland
I will go out on a limb and say "marine mammal" based on the lack of a central void being visible and the grain being strait indicating the piece is from the central section of the bone. From memory there are cetacean found in the area so a good chance "unknown cetacean fragment" Additional confirmed finds in the area would give better confidence with comparative pieces for a good ID. Eliminate what it is not. Mike D
