saysac
Found 5 fish scales today. Some had pyrite on them, which was a first for me, but my fish also had pyrite on it. Here are 4 of them. The fifth was just too light to photograph. Sherry

Archie
These are beautiful specimens! Looks like either Rhizodus or Strepsodus sp. Regards,
saysac
My area is Carboniferous, Pennsylvanian Archie. Would these fit? Sherry
Archie
They would indeed, I tend to find more Rhizodus scales in the lower Carboniferous/Mississippian and more Strepsodus scales in the upper Carboniferous/Pennsylvanian. Ive posted some really similar examples to yours in my Sarcopterygii gallery =] Regards, Sam

saysac
Thank you Sam. I did look at your gallery and found some great finds! I was told mine could also be from a Coelocanth? Sherry
Archie
Thanks Sherry =] they do look a lot like some Coelacanth scales too actually and both are lobe fins. Edited April 26, 2016 by Archie
