fatpreeman
Possible petrified wood? Found in Deleware water gap area, PA. I find fossils like this all the time on my property. Just trying to get some ideas of what exactly it is and any other info if possible. Thanks!!! This is my first post and first day on the forum. DPS Ammonite
It is a very nice Paleozoic tabulate coral not wood. Note that the tabula that cross the long coralites do not line up to form growth rings like those found in wood. DPS Ammonite
If you find out what rocks this coral came from on your property we might be able to tell you what genus or species it is. Take a look at this website with a Pennsylvania geology map: http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/topogeo/publications/pgspub/map/map1/index.htm Let us know what you find out. 1 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned.
