HikerJP
I made a trip to Post Oak Creek over the weekend and found 2 pieces sitting on the rock bank. They look like Mosasaur, but I am very new to identifying fossils. Any help with identification would be greatly appreciated. The ruler is in inches. On a side note, I also had a gar watching me the whole time I was there which was a first for me. I will post pictures of him in the Fossil Hunting Trips section. HikerJP
Anybody have a guess? Do I need to upload different pictures?
Xiphactinus
First one looks to be a Cretaceous bone fragment. It has the characteristics of possible mosasaur (non-fish). The second is the head of a femur. Beyond that, it's going to be hard to refine the id....
tmaier
People often call the unidentifiable pieces "chunkosaurus". I put some of my chunks in a giant antique mason jar, and use it as a shelf curio. It's fun to pour out and look through, but trying to figure out exactly what they came from can be difficult or impossible.
HikerJP
That's a great idea. Thanks to you both for your help. I thought they would be difficult to identify when I found them. The fun is in the search. Cheers.
