North Sulphur River - 5-15-16 trip

Made another foray to the North Sulphur River last Sunday. After a couple of wasted stops, I finally found an area that had promising-looking gravel bars. Wasn't as productive as I had hoped, but it was still worthwhile.

The first find was this. The consensus among the Dallas Paleo members that responded to my ID request was "possible turtle plastron fragment."

More of the possible turtle plastron:

Next, there's this odd bit of bone. The shape of the thing made me wonder if it's a REALLY REALLY weathered bit of something's mandible, but the opinion was that it's too worn to be able to ID.

Then we have these 2 bits of smashed-up bone. I like the one on the right... so much mineralization that it REALLY shines in the light.

A couple of bits o' Baculites. I normally skip the bits of broken cephalopod, but the one on the right has SUCH nice sutures, and the one on the left was split, showing the internal area of the phosphate cast.

Lastly, this cool little Ozan "red bed" invertebrate shell. :D

I'm going to have to give that area another going over, if the rain EVER lets up long enough for the water to drop to levels that let me past the 1 area I was confined to.
