Fossildude19
Hey alej9582, Not sure I can comment one way or another. Have you looked at This PDF for any information? Where are these from again? Formation? Regards, Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." alej9582
Pekin Formation. The rest of it is in the rock. Here is another view, ill send the rock with the negative imprint next.

Fossildude19
Alex, To me, this looks a bit more like the Pterophyllum inaequate or Pterophyllum affine on plate 17 in the PDF. What do you think? Fossildude19
Alex, Also - don't know if you've seen this post on the forum. It has a link to this potentially more helpful PDF. And here is another interesting Link. It might be worthwhile to look into the Plant and Invertebrate book listed here, if you haven't already. alej9582
Tim, I agree. The links where awsome, the problem with this spot is that the preservation is not (at the moment) as well as the Boren Clay ones. This deposit as I just found out is an interbeding between Pekin Formation and Wadesboro Sub Basin. Only the clay belongs to the Pekin and It is the only exposure out of private land. The Wadesboro Sub-basin has not been studied as deeply as the Pekin and given the rock type and strata I think I might had it wrong from the begining, this could be Wadseboro rock. There are hundreds of preserved roots and carbon nodules resting on top of a silty brown to black shale. This shale only preserves imprints at the moment and even those are hard to spot. You mentioned you have been in the area before?
Fossildude19
Alex, No, sorry, I have not been down that way for fossils at all. I've been to the Triassic Lockatong formation in North Bergen New Jersey. I hear you on the black shale plant imprints. They are very hard to see sometimes in my Jurassic area. However, black shales are indicative of anoxic conditions, so preservation of any other items may be pretty good. Keep looking in the black layers - they are where most of the fish fossils come from up here, in the Triassic and Jurassic exposures I hunt. I have to split maybe about 100 lbs of shale for every fish piece I find. Thanks for posting about this. I'd really like to hear more about this area - we don't see enough Triassic stuff on here.
