Strepsodus
Hi. Here are my finds from two trips to the Isle of Sheppey (UK). On the first trip I went fossil hunting three times and on the second trip I went fossil hunting twice. At first it can be hard to find anything other than wood, but once you find one shark tooth many more appear. Pyritised fruit, wood and gastropods are all common, however they quickly turn to dust so I did'nt collect any. There is a wide variety of fossils to be found, including fish, sharks, crabs, wood and more. Wood which is full of burrows can be found; it is usually grey colour and it does'nt turn to dust like the pyritised wood does. The only negative thing about the Isle of Sheppey is the London clay often covers much of the beach, making it difficult to get to certain places. Often the clay is quite deep, making it quite dangerous. Daniel Edited June 2, 2016 by Strepsodus

mrieder79
I'm not familiar with the geologic age of the deposits on the Isle of Sheppey. If they are Miocene, then I might be tempted to wonder if the middle tooth in picture #7 might be a megalodon tooth. The bourlette seems to be larger in comparison with the rest of the tooth than odotus teeth. Luck is the most important skill of a fossil diver. Strepsodus
Hi. Thanks for the replies. They are all Eocene age, around 50 million years old. All three of the teeth on picture 7 are Otodus Obliquus. Thanks, Daniel

As glyphs are pretty commong on sheppey it is quite likely it is though. I have attached a recent picture of a glyph that I found this weekend gone.

gremlinshow
Thanks! That little guy is really special. Nice find! Don Thanks very much. I am very happy with it :-) I have another one which is still encased in the nodule but from the exposed claw detail it is looking almost as good as this one... just got to try to get it out without damaging it!
