Sorry, but it looks like a concretion, not an egg - I see no egg texture.

I thought rock when I first saw the inside but it has a dark layer surrounding the inside as well if this pic changes minds. I know nothing about fossils but am curious.

Welcome to TFF!

Concretions often have a concentrated "skin", but they are not eggs.

The piece that You have is a classic example of a concretion.

Don't give up just yet. It is very possible for a fossil to be found in a concretion.

As a glacial till picker much of the time I would be interested in a lesson on how you all differentiate this from a run of the pit rock.

Texture, grain and general appearance, but with a picture it can be difficult to be absolutely sure.
