North Carolina Dinosaur teeth?

Thanks, usually best done under the scope but I know it's not easy. I don't have an answer but I can shed some light on the tooth.

What you have is a theropod tooth with midline serrations slightly under 3/mm. Since the serrations are equivalent on both sides and the tooth is not recurved we can rule out anything in the dromaeosaurid family, which is huge. The serration count also does not appear to be consistent with what has been described on the holotype Dryptosaurus or other types of Tyrannosaurus. The tooth also appears to be very compressed not diagnostic of a tyrannosaur. So of the couple of species from NC that some work has been done this tooth does not appear to fit the mold.

Great tooth obviously something different and you should try to get it in the hands of a museum.

Hey Don.

Nice finds!! We have a couple of Theropod teeth from E-town at the river locale we found last year that look exactly like your photos. Tried to go back in March and April of this year but the river level has not cooperated most of this entire calendar year.

If you haven't seen it, Cynthia Crane did her thesis on the E-town dump and compared vertebrate fossils from there to the river locale. You can google her and find the paper. Very informative and has lots of great photos of specimens including teeth from various hadrosaur sp. and theropod sp.

If you can't find the thesis online and want a copy, I can email it to you.

I found it online, thanks. Very interesting. Most of what she described from her site, I or others have found at this site. However this is the first theropod tooth that I am aware of from there.

Wow! You always kill it Don.

Thanks Rick. One of these days the water will go back down and we can hit this spot again.
