Fossil Claw
I did an experiment with penn dixie matrix this week. Artificial weathering. I took. A peice of matrix with part if a trilobite head exposed. I put it in gladwear added water to cover and then over the course of a few days I froze the water and matrix and thawed it with hot running water. Rinse and repeated 5 or 6 times. Each time lossening the matrix only with my finger. Today I was reward with a loss enrolled trilobite. I guess I know what I am doing with a lot the matrix I brought back this month. Can you say trilofrezer? Much easier than airscribe ng it out. Just need to air abraid it now. More matrix is in the freeze now. minnbuckeye
Had read your post initially and it stimulated me to try it on a fox hills nodule that contains ammonites, gastropods and pelecypods. Did a freeze thaw cycle and nothing. It is on its 2nd freeze currently. Will report back if it is effective.
JohnBrewer
You could possibly really speed up the process if you had (no longer needed, do NOT borrow one, or out of date) CO2 fire extinguisher and then hot water. Years ago we used to chill beer on a hot day like this. Cold beer in 30 seconds John Map of UK fossil sites
Fossil Claw
Second round of matrix is going slower but still working. Seems some of the matrix will need more freeze and thaw cycles.
