Found this at Discovery Park, (a rocky beach), in Seattle WA. I think its a fossilized bird claw or talon. I donn't know if it is..... or what its is. Any info would be appreciated. Would love to know what animal it came from if its a fossil.

Thanks!

A

Welcome to the Forum. :)

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the others. :(

Not a fossil.

But a cool looking, beach worn rock.

Mother Nature can be quite the trickster. ;)

Welcome to TFF!

That is a real nice fake "fossil", one of the best that I have seen in awhile. Ma nature does like to play jokes on us!

Keep looking and You will find some real fossils.

We see lots of suggestive rocks on this forum and most of us would also pick them up. This one is very cool

I was thinking the other day we should create a simulacrum gallery. This "talon" would be a great entry, and I'd be happy to donate a photo of my petrified sushi. :-)

Info: Craig Hyatt, retired software/electrical engineer

Experience: Beginner, fossil hunting less than a year

Location: Eagle Pass, TX USA on the border with Mexico, hot dry desert

Formation: Escondido, Marine, Upper Cretaceous

Materials: Sandstone, Mudstone, Shale, Chert, Chalk

Typical: Thalassinoides, Sphenodiscus, Exogyra, Inoceramus

I don't think it is a rock. It looks like a BIC lighter. I have collected those before in Eocene formations.

I tried to start one here--- http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/66738-it-looks-like-ano-and-i-am-sure-it-is-ano-but-is-is-no

But only a little interest so far.

I would rather focus on the real stuff

So would I, but I find the fakes to be interesting, and it could help others with less experience identifying fossils.
